“My goal is to create music that resonates globally while staying true to my roots.” — DJ Percy
We’ve come to know Percy as actress Delnaaz Irani’s partner. He is a familiar face on Delnaaz’s social media, where the popular couple entertains fans with their creative reels. Percy is also a talented music maker and has made a significant mark as a DJ. Some time ago, he left a stable corporate job to pursue music full-time.
Sharing more about his journey as a DJ, he says, “I started my career as a DJ several years ago. I was driven by my passion for music and the desire to create unique soundscapes that resonate with people. The journey began with small gigs and gradually grew as I refined my style and sound. It has been an incredible journey, full of ups and downs. The initial phase was all about experimentation and finding my niche, but once I found my rhythm, things began to fall into place. I’ve learned a lot about the industry, met amazing people, and grew not only as a DJ but as an artist, too.”
Percy was once happy working in the corporate sector, where he was well-paid. However, he missed making music, and one day, he made the decision to leave his job and focus fully on his passion. He says, “Music has always been a part of me. Even while working in the corporate world, I constantly missed the creative freedom and the excitement that comes with making music.
That phase of my life made me realize that music is my true calling, and I knew I had to come back to it. The journey has been refreshing and liberating. Getting back into music full-time has allowed me to explore new sounds, collaborate with other talented artists, and focus on my passion. It’s been rewarding, both creatively and emotionally, and I’m thrilled to see how the audience connects with my music.”
Percy has also started his own music company, DJ Percy Music Company, specializing in producing background music (BGM), title tracks, Foley effects, and songs. The company has successfully composed the background score for a new web show and a movie. Recently, Percy recreated a few old popular songs, receiving great feedback. He shares, “I’ve recreated more than 350 classic remix songs and two original compositions for Saregama and Universal Music.
The songs include ‘Jawani Jan-E-Man, House Trap Mix’ (used in the Skoda TV ad), ‘Tum Agar Saath Dene Ka Vada Karo Chill Mix,’ ‘Zindagi Ki Na Toote Ladi Vintage Lofi,’ ‘Hasta Hua Noorani Chehra Remix,’ and ‘Baar Baar Dekho Lofi Mix.’ The feedback has been fantastic! Listeners have appreciated the nostalgic yet modern twist I’ve brought to these classics, especially the relaxed and soothing vibe of the lofi and chill mixes.
Many have commented on how it has breathed new life into the songs they’ve always loved. When recreating old songs, I focus on maintaining the essence of the original while adding my unique touch. It’s important to respect the nostalgia attached to these tracks, so I try to modernize the sound without losing the emotional connection people have with the song. I also consider how the music will feel in contemporary settings, ensuring it’s suitable for relaxation or even upbeat vibes.”
When asked about his future plans, Percy says, “I aim to continue pushing boundaries with my music. I’m looking to collaborate with new artists and explore more genres like Afrobeat, Tech, and Amapiano. I’ve also delved into original compositions for web shows and movies through my company. My goal is to create music that resonates globally while staying true to my roots.”
